The art of sculpting wool
Needle felting
Needle felting
What is carded wool?
Carded wool is unspun wool, it has a very soft appearance, is made up of fine fibers, and can be easily divided into smaller parts.
This type of wool is mainly used for felting.
There are two processes for felting carded wool
• Felting with water and soap
• Needle felting
But how is carded wool obtained? Before wool can be used to produce fabrics, it must be processed, so the steps after shearing are washing and carding.
Through carding, the wool is combed with a metal roller, freed from impurities, thus taking on a raw form (carded wool), and from this moment on it can be used for spinning or felting.
The process I use for creating my works is needle felting, in English Needle Felting. This technique consists of working the unspun wool fibers (carded wool) with a special needle that has very tiny hooks. The movement of the needle tends to remove the air inside the fibers and bind them together, shaping them and thus creating three-dimensional shapes of all kinds.
Many movements of the needle's "tip" are necessary, but in the end we can obtain a shape solid enough to sculpt.
Each work requires many hours before being completed,
There is no stuffing... everything is needle felted, you start from a base and then add wool and more wool, and by working for several hours you can achieve the most varied shapes.
There are many types of wool: animal, vegetable, and synthetic origin. Usually in my works I use wool of animal origin: Maori, Bergschaf, Merino, and sometimes even Corriedale.
I buy my wool from DHG SHOP, this company uses carefully selected materials to ensure consistent quality over time. All materials are 100% carded wool and come from Mulesing Free lots.
Every artist uses their own method, their own imagination, this art of felting has no limits, it leads you to discover new methods and new applications every day, and you never stop learning.
It almost becomes an addiction, a pleasant addiction that brings benefits, the best cure for a good mood.

A bit about me

People often ask me to create custom portraits and occasionally I do, in fact portraits are not my main activity, I prefer to create works for my shop and for my website, and unfortunately, due to lack of time, I can't always satisfy everyone and I truly apologize to those who have been left behind
However, I would also like to talk a bit about my work, and explain better what it consists of. Around each piece, dog, cat or whatever it may be, there is a huge amount of work
The needle felting technique is very complex and to complete a piece it often takes many hours of work and concentration
We're talking about a real sculpture, starting from scratch, adding more and more wool, shaping it with the needle, creating the small details and finally achieving what you see in my posts
Behind all this there have been years of work, entire days and even nights, spent studying, learning, trying, I am self-taught and it took me several years to be able to do all this
I would also like to point out that for every portrait I create I spend much more time compared to the works I do on my own initiative, to try to get as close as possible to the original, but what interests me most is to capture the essence of the animal and give a real emotion
In all my works I use top quality wool: Maori, Bergschaf, Merino and sometimes also Corriedale

I thank everyone who has entrusted me with the creation of their dog's portrait and I also thank all those who follow me and greatly appreciate what I do❤❤❤
